En los pueblos jóvenes (barriadas o barrios marginales) que circundan y componen Lima, Perú, ha aparecido desde hace tiempo un nuevo tipo de transmisión local de corto alcance, cuyo uso se ha generalizado en dicho espacio vertiginosamente y que implica un medio de comunicación fuera de los tradicionales: las bocinas o parlantes (también llamados altavoces). Actualmente, este sistema de emisión es utilizado fundamentalmente en pequeños y precarios mercados de dichas zonas, muchos son hechos en base a cartón y madera y las vendedoras son vecinas del barrio que se acogen a dicha actividad como el medio más accesible de subsistencia, así como por grupos de otro tipo. En la organización vecinal, el llamado con pito a los pobladores empieza a dejarse de lado para ser reemplazado por el llamado con parlantes, los cuales por lo general se instalan en la casa más alta de la manzana.
