La presente investigación explora la forma en la que Ernesto Laclau, y Michael Hardt y Antonio Negri conciben la figura del líder dentro de sus propuestas teóricas, estas son, la construcción del Pueblo (Laclau) y la Multitud (Hardt y Negri). Problematizamos a lo largo del presente escrito la manera contrapuesta en la que los autores entienden el rol del líder. Así, mientras para Laclau el líder permite una participación política democrática de los grupos subalternos, para Hardt y Negri, el líder impide dicha participación. Lo que indagamos entonces es cuál de estas posturas posibilita una mayor participación política de los grupos excluidos. El argumento que defendemos es que la postura laclausiana permite esta participación, pues, es la figura del líder la que inserta democráticamente a lo excluido en el campo de lucha política.
