Según Simone Weil, en el orden social, el ser humano se encuentra sometido al poder de la colectividad y a la fuerza que rige ese orden social, lo cual aplasta los espíritus, fabrica la inconciencia, es causa de opresión, hace de los seres humanos seres frágiles y vulnerables, y los expone siempre a la desgracia y a múltiples necesidades. Además, el ser humano se encuentra sometido a una fuerza interior -que la autora llama gravedad- que lo mantiene inserto en el medio material; sometido a la necesidad implacable del alma y del cuerpo; y a la aspiración del bien, el cual, es también carencia esencial del ser humano. Ante esta situación, ¿existe alguna posibilidad de contravenir la dinámica de la fuerza, el poder de la colectividad y la ley de la gravedad?
