O presente trabalho analisa a viabilidade do Cadastro Único para Programas Sociais do Governo Federal (CADÚNICO) atuar como instrumento que permita a intersetorialidade entre as políticas públicas e sociais. Objetiva levantar algumas questões e apontamentos acerca da utilização do CADÚNICO na perspectiva de sua efetividade, eficiência e eficácia nos atendimentos no âmbito da Política Nacional de Assistência Social nos municípios. Busca-se compreender os impactos da redemocratização brasileira e da implantação da Constituição de 1988 no contexto de construção das políticas sociais no Brasil, e também se aprofundou na legislação pertinente à formação da Assistência Social enquanto política pública de proteção social. Fundamenta-se em um estudo de caso na cidade de Ipatinga/MG, por meio do acesso a uma amostra de cadastros de atendimentos junto aos Centros de Referência da Assistência Social (CRAS) da cidade. Foi possível constatar que o CADÚNICO tem cumprido seu papel de selecionar as famílias para os programas sociais, no entanto apresenta limites enquanto instrumento capaz de integrar intersetorialmente as políticas sociais no município.
