La ocupación, control y expansión del espacio es una constante histórica en el accionar del hombre como ser social. Es una manera de explicar la diversidad y riqueza étnica de la humanidad. La inspiración violenta del sojuzgamiento del hombre por el hombre como matriz histórica y dialéctica ha configurado también la determinación espacial del hombre a través del tiempo. De allí surgen las aldeas, villas, pueblos, caseríos y ciudades.
El traslado desde los Castillos a la angostura del Orinoco de la capital de la Provincia de Guayana ordenada en junio de 1762, y realizada en 1764, responde a esta matriz histórica: ocupación, población, defensa y persecución de la penetración comercial holandesa a través del contrabando de un vasto territorio definido en el Correo del Orinoco como las inmensas soledades.
