En el estudio de los asentamientos informales es común que la participación de las mujeres quede invisibilizada, no obstante, dentro de estos espacios la participación de ellas suele ser activa y decisiva, pues la búsqueda del bienestar para su familia o su comunidad (una labor de cuidados) suele mover la acción de estas. Es por ello que con esta investigación se pretende explorar acerca de la participación de las mujeres en la producción social de la vivienda en un asentamiento informal, en este caso en el Barrio Jesús de Nazaret de la Parroquia Turumba del Distrito Metropolitano de Quito, Ecuador, como una forma de dar cuenta del papel activo que tienen las mujeres en la formación de asentamientos autoproducidos y contribuir de esta manera a la construcción de políticas públicas sobre vivienda y asentamientos informales desde la perspectiva de las mujeres.
