El objetivo principal del presente trabajo consiste en analizar el programa “Escuelas Integrales de
Iniciación Deportiva” (Costa Rica), por medio de la consulta y análisis de documentación pertinente y de entrevistas a personas directamente involucradas en su desarrollo y ejecución, para determinar si el deporte puede constituirse en una herramienta que posibilite la aplicación del enfoque del desarrollo
humano; en el sentido de brindar, a la población específica de que se trata, capacidades y funcionamientos que les permitan sentir que gozan de una mayor calidad de vida. Otro aspecto que se procurará determinar es si el programa como tal es perfectible y replicable, de tal manera que permita desarrollar otras iniciativas similares de inversión de recursos públicos y de establecimiento de alianzas público-privadas en el ámbito del deporte con otras poblaciones, que promuevan en ellas sus
potencialidades para vivir unas vidas productivas y creativas que les satisfagan. Se realizó una revisión documental de los antecedentes y demás fases de implementación del programa, incluyendo los documentos del acuerdo interinstitucional de las entidades públicas que lo diseñaron y los convenios, informes y liquidaciones de fondos de las entidades privadas ejecutoras de este. Parte importante de la investigación fue también la consulta directa a los diferentes ejecutores del programa, es decir, las instituciones públicas y privadas involucradas.
