El proceso migratorio en Colombia, se ha convertido en uno de los desafíos económicos, políticos y sociales que actualmente enfrenta el país. En la actualidad residen alrededor de 1.800.000 venezolanos en Colombia, todos y cada uno con distintas razones para migrar y con diferentes niveles socioeconómicos, sin embargo, la gran mayoría que migran requieren atención en sus necesidades básicas insatisfechas y especialmente inclusión social y laboral dentro del país. El Estado, con miras a garantizar una migración segura y ordenada, ha desarrollado una serie de políticas públicas, que regularizan la situación migratoria de los venezolanos y les permite acceder a servicios y derechos fundamentales en la misma condición que el colombiano. Por otra parte, la feminización de las migraciones, y las relaciones de género en cuanto migración intervienen en los constructos sociales, y son por tanto fundamentales en el modo en que se desarrolla el proceso migratorio en el mundo; en el caso de Colombia, las mujeres venezolanas inmigrantes son una población con altos niveles de vulnerabilidad, no sólo por su condición de mujer, sino por las condiciones en las que migran y las diferentes barreras a las que se enfrentan a la hora de integrarse en la sociedad colombiana y en el mercado laboral. Finalmente, es importante resaltar que además de las dinámicas descritas anteriormente, la migración presenta un potencial beneficio, en términos de desarrollo económico, social y cultural para el país, en la medida en que, como sociedad de acogida, el país pueda brindar las condiciones y la apertura que requiere a la población migrante en pro del desarrollo conjunto.
