Esta investigación analiza cómo el retorno femenino influye en las transformaciones de los roles de género y las relaciones de poder dentro de las familias transnacionales, mediante entrevistas a quince mujeres que regresaron sobre todo de Europa. La premisa es que las mujeres a su retorno modifican su rol dentro de la familia, ya que sus condiciones sociales y económicas cambian. Los hallazgos evidencian que las mujeres-madres-migrantes, al llegar, desempeñan dos roles: proveedoras y reproductoras. Esta reacomodación da paso a nuevas relaciones de poder al interior del núcleo familiar, que, sin embargo, agudizan las acciones que procuran fortalecer las relaciones familiares y su desempeño como madre, lo que perpetúa el orden jerárquico de género que sostiene el sistema patriarcal.
