Las estrategias medioambientales en el turismo tienen como objetivo reducir el impacto negativo de este sector, a la vez que buscan alcanzar efectos positivos sobre su competitividad y rentabilidad. Sin embargo, aún existe un vacío de investigación en la literatura académica sobre la conexión entre las ecocertificaciones y los precios que los clientes pueden pagar por ese tipo de servicio. El artículo analiza la disposición a pagar de los huéspedes por habitaciones en hoteles amigables con el medio ambiente en México. Se centra en tres de los estados con mayor número de establecimientos hoteleros del país y con más ocupación turística: Quintana Roo, Veracruz y Jalisco. Se evalúan las diferencias entre la disponibilidad a pagar de los huéspedes por hoteles con ecocertificación entre estados, teniendo en cuenta la categoría del establecimiento. Se utilizan modelos de precios hedónicos para evaluar el efecto de la ecocertificación, junto a diferentes atributos del hotel. However, there is still a research gap in the academic literature on the connection between eco-certifications and the prices that clients are willing to pay for this type of service. This paper analyzes guests’ willingness to pay for rooms in environmentally friendly hotels in Mexico. The study focuses on three of the states with the largest number of hotel establishments in the country: Quintana Roo, Veracruz, and Jalisco. The differences among the states regarding the willingness of the guests to pay for hotels with eco-certification were evaluated by taking into account the category of the establishment. Hedonic price models were used to evaluate the effect of both eco-certification and different hotel attributes on the price of a room.
