La prolongada crisis que afecta con virulencia al Norte global ha debilitado las condiciones de inversión en los países desarrollados, pero a su vez ha ayudado a sostener la liquidez de la economía ecuatoriana y latinoamericana en general, incrementando las incursiones de empresas en la región, en busca de mercados emergentes que sostengan su producción. Por otro lado, las remesas de los migrantes se han visto reducidas significativamente, aunque siguen siendo una de las principales fuentes de ingresos para Ecuador, incluso superando a la exportación de banano. Es interesante comprobar cómo, después de cuatro años de crisis, la economía mundial continúa dominada por fuerzas y tendencias especulativas. Las multimillonarias inyecciones de dinero a la banca por parte de los gobiernos del Norte han causado presiones especulativas en los precios de las materias primas, entre otras el petróleo y los minerales, así como de los alimentos, en particular los cereales.
