La producción florícola en Ecuador tiene una presencia de 25 años. Su dinámica productiva ha influido en la economía de varios cantones de la Sierra y representa una fuente importante de trabajo en el sector rural; sin embargo, su relación con el ambiente, la salud y la comunidad ha sido duramente cuestionada.
En la presente publicación se reflexiona sobre su repercusión en las estrategias familiares de producción y reproducción social, así como su influencia en la soberanía alimentaria del cantón Cayambe. Para ello se revisa la estructuración y resultados económicos de los sistemas productivos familiares, las formas en que las familias se adaptan, resisten y cambian en las empresas florícolas.
Este estudio concluye que la pluriactividad y de manera particular la venta de mano de obra en las empresas florícolas es una estrategia fundamental de supervivencia familiar, en un contexto de limitaciones estructurales relacionadas con el acceso a factores y medios de producción y en donde se ha urgente establecer mecanismos.
