El capital, los medios de comunicación y los bienes simbólicos parecen atravesar el mundo sin ningún tipo de barreras, mientras los migrantes se enfrentan a fronteras geopolíticas y simbólicas que establecen y controlan quién puede entrar y circular en los territorios nacionales y cómo son nombrados en uno u otro lado de los límites de los Estados nacionales. El mismo acto de nombrar devela, sin lugar a dudas, los intersticios históricos de la desigualdad global y el afinamiento de ciertos dispositivos categoriales que, a la vez que nombran, clasifican y otorgan sentido, separan mundos, crean fronteras, construyen, incorporando o excluyendo tipos diferenciados de sujetos migrantes.
Esta compilación parte de la idea de la construcción social y política del sujeto migrante: una perspectiva que demanda una comprehensión de los procesos históricos, las continuidades y discontinuidades sociales, las políticas situadas en las que pueden leerse las interconexiones entre lo local y lo global, las negociaciones, las tensiones e interacciones entre múltiples actores, así como el reconocimiento de las similitudes y, al mismo tiempo, de la heterogeneidad entre los migrantes de nuestra región, sus contradicciones y ambigüedades. Es decir, se trata de reconocer que los migrantes son sujetos sociales que actúan en circunstancias históricas y coyunturas específicas.
CLACSO, FLACSO y la Universidad Alberto Hurtado ponen en manos del lector el resultado de las reflexiones del Grupo de Trabajo de CLACSO Migración, cultura y políticas con el fin de contribuir al debate sobre el proceso de construcción de este sujeto migrante latinoamericano y develar cómo las categorías son construidas en sus significados, en situaciones y circunstancias específicas y sobre qué tipo de relaciones de poder se entretejen en esas políticas de enunciación que categorizan al sujeto social de las migraciones y las movilidades humanas.
