Description:
Este estudio propone la revisión de dos casos específicos, uno en Ecuador y otro en Estados Unidos, en los cuales el proceso de extracción comercial de madera se realiza dentro y alrededor de los límites de áreas protegidas, generando conflictos socioambientales que involucran especialmente a las comunidades que en ellas habitan. Aunque en contextos socioeconómicos diferentes, los conflictos por la deforestación de bosques con alta biodiversidad en estos países tienen un origen común: la colonización de nuevos territorios con el interés de desarrollar proyectos agro-industriales y de explotación de recursos naturales como madera, minerales e hidrocarburos. Con la finalidad de distinguir las peculiaridades inherentes a cada caso, su estudio se abordará por separado, considerando las características propias de cada uno y con especial énfasis en la participación de las organizaciones sociales relacionadas y su incidencia sobre otros actores del conflicto, contemplando redes, alianzas, estrategias, escenarios y acciones que los involucran.
