El objetivo de este estudio de tesis fue conocer, con un enfoque comprensivo, el conjunto de los programas y los servicios de asistencia social destinados a las personas mayores desarrollado por la comunidad judía argentina desde principios del siglo XX hasta el presente, con el propósito de definir el paradigma que actualmente orienta sus prestaciones y fundamentar una propuesta de adecuación de las mismas con miras hacia el futuro cercano. En esta tesis se plantea una discusión acerca del particular aporte que realizó la diáspora judía a las políticas sociales de los países occidentales en los que se asentó a lo largo de su extenso exilio. Se pone énfasis en diferenciar el concepto de “tzedaká” (justicia social) judío y el de caridad cristiano y el impacto de esta concepción en el diseño de programas de asistencia social en Europa, así como en su traslado y adaptación al Nuevo Mundo, acompañando la emigración judía desde los países centroeuropeos a sus dos grandes destinos americanos: Estados Unidos y la Argentina.
