Description:
La palma de la tagua (Phytelephas aequatorialis Spruce) es una especie catalogada como casi amenazada, y de gran importancia social, cultural y económica para las comunidades o comunas que dependen de la misma. Estudios etnobotánicos anteriores describen los servicios ecosistémicos que presenta y a la vez, hacen énfasis en las preocupaciones que existen entre los participantes con respecto al comercio, peligros de la cosecha y la pérdida de tradiciones asociadas con la tagua. Por lo que se requiere de más estudios que involucren a las comunidades humanas vinculadas con este recurso, ya que son parte del ecosistema y no pueden separarse significativamente de él.
