El presente trabajo pretende analizar cómo el gasto público, a través de la política pública, afecta el crecimiento de corto y de largo plazo del Ecuador. Para esto, se ha propuesto realizar un análisis del componente cíclico de las variables más relevantes que afectan al crecimiento económico, acorde a las nuevas corrientes teóricas, con el propósito de verificar la importancia que tiene la gestión pública en el Ecuador. Los resultados encontrados muestran que el incremento del gasto público, tal y cómo se ha realizado en las últimas cuatro décadas, ha afectado positivamente el crecimiento económico del país en los primeros períodos, pero, en el mediano plazo la tasa de crecimiento del producto vuelve a su estado de equilibrio estacionario.
