Esta tesis problematiza las construcciones y representaciones de “masculinidad” que se generan en la red social virtual para hombres homosexuales Gaydar. Considera que en esta comunidad online se configura y privilegia una “masculinidad hegemónica”, atravesada por características y discursos contradictorios, en medio de constantes dinámicas de reproducción y quiebres de la norma heterosexual. A partir de una etnografía virtual de esta red en Ecuador, se visibilizan diversos performances que tienen como escenario y mediación a la virtualidad, desde allí se abordan los cambios en las nociones de tiempo y corporalidad que se dan en los procesos de creación de “identidades virtuales”, en este caso de diversas masculinidades que habitan e interactúan en esta comunidad social, en medio de tensiones permanentes que tienen como centro a la “masculinidad”, como construcción social localizada. Este trabajo intenta además, encontrar los puntos de encuentro de los estudios de masculinidades y de la Teoría Queer, y parte de estos dos enfoques para pensar la representación de masculinidades desde una mirada relacional que permita ir en contra de los esencialismos y analizar ¿hasta qué punto se puede pensar a las comunidades virtuales como lugares “más libres” en los que, en este caso, los hombres homosexuales puedan representarse y vivir su sexualidad?.
