Esta investigación problematiza los procesos de construcción y legitimación del valor de los objetos en el campo del arte moderno ecuatoriano, a partir del caso de la Galería Siglo XX, institución de difusión cultural establecida en la ciudad de Quito a principios de la década del sesenta, y la Fundación Hallo, frente investigativo de esta galería desde los años setenta. En un escenario marcado por la ideología de reivindicación de lo latinoamericano, por las dictaduras militares y las políticas desarrollistas, la incidencia de los réditos petroleros y el posicionamiento en la gestión cultural pública de un discurso patrimonialista, buscamos abordar este campo desde las prácticas de coleccionismo generadas en el ámbito privado, con una doble mirada desde la antropología y la historia del arte, que analiza los contextos de producción-circulación del valor y las negociaciones sobre la materialidad y los significados de los objetos.
