En esta investigación se indaga sobre las conversiones religiosas y las prácticas espirituales de una parte convertida de la clase media quiteña a través de una etnografía y de observaciones participantes. En un primer momento desarrollamos que la especificidad del éxito de las iglesias cristianas evangélicas se dio gracias a que se concentraron efectivamente en cubrir problemas sociales que el Estado-nación habían olvidado, como resultado, las primeras poblaciones en convertirse fueron los sectores de bajos recursos y sectores campesinos o indígenas. En esta tesis mostramos que una parte de la clase media de Quito se siente atraída por esta opción religiosa como la posibilidad una opción de vida nueva social espiritual.
