La presente tesis realiza un análisis basándose en tres ejes: el espacial, el social y el histórico, con el fin de determinar la percepción que la sociedad cuencana tiene de su Centro Histórico, después de que esta ciudad fuera declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura. Para el eje espacial se realiza un estudio de tres casos: el parque Calderón uno de los elementos urbanos caracterizado por ser un punto de referencia con altos valores históricos y de poder políticos; el parque de San Blas que fuera durante mucho tiempo el espacio de entrada y salida de la ciudad, y actualmente caracterizado por ser un espacio público que se define como el límite este del Centro Histórico; y, la Calle Larga también con fuertes valores históricos y tradicionales, que se ha caracterizado por ser uno de los espacios de vínculo con El Barranco del río Tomebamba.
