El propósito de esta investigación es crear campos analíticos que expliquen qué estereotipos de belleza, dentro de los conceptos de género, clase social y etnia, se siguen reproduciendo con los cánones que persiguen gobernar los cuerpos de las mujeres fotografiadas y cómo las relaciones profesionales entre fotógrafos y modelos que buscan fabricar una imagen fotográfica que represente a la modelo, son mediados por situaciones sociales en las que el cuerpo de la mujer se convierte en un valor de cambio, que además es un contenedor de significaciones sociales, muchas veces determinadas por la industria publicitaria y de la moda.
El cuerpo teórico de este análisis hace una exploración a la problemática de la representación social como centro del presente estudio, y crea un marco hipotético que se cuestiona sobre las relaciones sociales y culturales que empujan a la construcción de la fotografía de moda y devela las formas de coerción y agencia social que se suscitan alrededor de la creación de los estereotipos de la belleza femenina en los circuitos de representación que rodean el acto fotográfico examinados desde la perspectiva de autores como Dubois (2008).
