Este artículo comenta el dossier de la edición 42 de Íconos, dedicado a la “Antropología visual en Latinoamérica”. En el texto se reseñan los ensayos realizados por cada uno de los colaboradores en este dossier; al mismo tiempo se plantea una serie de preguntas sobre las condiciones de posibilidad, el carácter y las líneas de investigación de la Antropología visual que se produce en América Latina. Finalmente, se invita a una reflexión sobre la función social que la disciplina puede tener en un contexto periférico y particular como es el latinoamericano.
This article comments on the dossier of the Iconos 43 edition, which focuses on “Visual Anthropology in Latin America”. The article reviews the essays and contributions made by each one of the authors; at the same time, it raises a number of questions regarding the nature, work conditions, and lines of research existent within Latin American visual anthropology. Finally, it invites the reader to reflect on the discipline’s social role when placed in a peripheral and particular context such as Latin America.
