En el presente trabajo se discuten críticamente las apreciaciones de algunos didactas de la educación tecnológica que asimilan la creatividad técnica a los procesos de ensayo y error cuando no están acompañadas por el razonamiento científico. Se defiende la hipótesis de que la construcción de tecnologías moviliza conceptos y estrategias ligadas, sobre todo, a dimensiones cognitivas de tipo teleonómico y funcional como ya fuera señalado tanto por investigadores de la inteligencia artificial como del constructivismo psicológico. Se destaca como inevitable y necesaria, a diferencia de la tendencia presente en las investigaciones sobre razonamientos por analogía, la alternativa de que los alumnos deban afrontar el error, si se pretende promover formas de enseñanza que verdaderamente se orienten al desarrollo de sujetos activos. Las conclusiones se completan con una breve reflexión epistemológica sobre la tecnología
compatible con los análisis psicológicos previos.
